Habitat amount and distribution modify community dynamics under climate change

چکیده
Habitat fragmentation may present a major impediment to species range shifts caused by climate change, but how it affects local community dynamics in changing has so far not been adequately investigated empirically. Using long-term monitoring data of butterfly assemblages, we tested the effects amount and distribution semi-natural habitat (SNH), moderated traits, on climate-driven turnover. We found that spatially dispersed SNH favoured colonisation warm-adapted mobile species. In contrast, extinction risk cold-adapted increased (as opposed aggregated) habitats when was low. Strengthening networks maintaining or creating stepping-stone patches could thus allow expand their range, while increasing area natural its spatial cohesion be important aid persistence threatened warming climate.

Food-web dynamics under climate change.
Climate change affects ecological communities through its impact on the physiological performance of individuals. However, the population dynamic of species well inside their thermal niche is also determined by competitors, prey and predators, in addition to being influenced by temperature changes. We use a trait-based food-web model to examine how the interplay between the direct physiological...
متن کاملModeling the current and future suitable habitat distribution of Fritillaria imperialis under climate change scenarios and using three general circulation model in Iran
Climate change may pose challenges to the conservation of plant species such as the Fritillaria imperialis that have narrow geographical distribution. In this study, the modeling suitable habitats of F.imperialis in Iran was done in the current condition and under climate change (2050). For this purpose, 78 species presence data along with 12 environmental variables including bioclimatic, physi...
متن کاملLinking changes in community composition and function under climate change.
Climate change is expected to directly alter the composition of communities and the functioning of ecosystems across the globe. Improving our understanding of links between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning across large spatial scales and rapid global change is a major priority to help identify management responses that will retain diverse, functioning systems. Here we address this challen...
متن کاملDynamics of habitat changes as a result of climate change in Zagros Mountains Range (Iran), a case study on Amphibians
Climate change is currently considered a serious threat for many species and recognized as one of the most important factors in the global biodiversity loss. Among animal groups, amphibians are known to be among the most sensitive groups of vertebrates to climate change due to their inability to travel long distances, and mountain habitat species are more exposed to climate change pressures tha...
متن کاملTerrestrial Carbon Cycle Dynamics under Recent and Future Climate Change
The behavior of the terrestrial carbon cycle under historical and future climate change is examined using the University of Victoria Earth System Climate Model, now coupled to a dynamic terrestrial vegetation and global carbon cycle model. When forced by historical emissions of CO2 from fossil fuels and land-use change, the coupled climate–carbon cycle model accurately reproduces historical atm...
